The National Media Council (NMC) unveiled a set of new smart applications as it took part in the 5th Dubai International Government Achievements Exhibition, DIGAE 2017, held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

The new applications seek to improve the Council's services to the public in a way that keeps pace with the rapid developments in the way news is covered and reported.

The NMC is taking part in the Exhibition to shed light on the achievements that have been made since Federal Law No. 11 of 2016 was issued, regulating the Council's scope, and following the rebranding process that aligned the NMC's identity with its future goals. These measures benefit the UAE's media industry as a whole, allowing the sector to remain up to speed with the rapid changes taking place all around the country – particularly, the shift towards innovative smart services. This platform also provides a great opportunity to network and exchange insight and expertise, as well as to explore potential partnerships.

His Excellency Dr Rashid Al Nuaimi, Executive Director of Support Services at the National Media Council, and Deputy Commissioner-General of the UAE Pavilion at the Expo-2017 Astana, briefed H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid about the progress being made with regards to the UAE Pavilion – one of the largest at the Expo-2017 Astana.

"The Dubai International Government Achievements Exhibition 2017 offers us an ideal platform to demonstrate the achievements and advancements registered by the National Media Council," H.E. Dr Al Nuaimi said, "and to highlight our continuous efforts to improve performance across the entire media sector. This, in turn, allows us to keep up with the rapid changes taking place in all sectors across the UAE."

Furthermore, H.E. continued, the Council is working through the Emirates News Agency (WAM) to offer its full support to all organisations taking part in the Exhibition to prioritise customer satisfaction and ensure the happiness of the wider public.

On the same note, the NMC launched WAM's new application, "WAM Editor", which allows the agency's reporters to use their smartphones and tablets to draft, edit, and publish news reports in real time, from any location, and in both Arabic and English. Available on the App Store and Google Play, "WAM Editor" offers direct links to local, regional, and global news agencies, as well as access to news and photo archives.

The Council also launched the "WAM live" service, which allows audiences to view the latest local, regional, and international news in real time via an interactive screen. The app offers news reels, as well as photos and video footage.

The new applications are part of WAM's ongoing development plans, which echo the National Media Council's policies to keep up with the shift towards digitising services and developing the media sector as a whole.

On the sidelines of the Exhibition, the NMC took part in an interactive seminar titled "Ask the Manager", where WAM's Executive Director, H.E. Mohammed Jalal Al Raisi, answered the audience's queries regarding services provided by WAM and its role in establishing the UAE's lead in the media sector.

The Dubai International Government Achievements Exhibition is an international platform that brings together decision makers, influential figures, and prominent government representatives to exchange insight and expertise, and to discuss international best practices to improve and develop the media sector.
